Fitch Ratings provides forward-looking credit opinions, as indicated by its ratings, that reflect its expectations of credit behavior over a range of scenarios. The rating process begins when an arranger, issuer, sponsor, or underwriter contacts a member of Fitch’s Business Relationship Management (BRM) group with a request to engage Fitch. Fitch may also initiate unsolicited rating coverage where sufficient public information is available to provide insight to subscribers and the public debt market.

Rating Reports provide full analysis on the credit profile of an individual issuer, including key rating drivers, rating sensitivities, financials with adjustments, and peers. Rating reports are updated annually or event-driven.

Ratings Navigator for Banks, Corporates, and Insurance is a visual overview of the key quantitative and qualitative factors that drive an entity’s credit rating. Navigators are used as a key part of Fitch’s internal rating process, fully aligned with published criteria, and clearly articulate how a rating is derived.

Analytical Methodology

Criteria reports identify the credit factors considered in the rating process, prioritize those factors into key ratings drivers, and describe the strengths and limitations of Fitch’s analysis.

Ratings Definitions

Fitch Ratings publishes opinions on a variety of scales. The most common of these are credit ratings, but the agency also publishes ratings, scores and other relative opinions relating to financial or operational strength. For example, Fitch also provides specialized ratings of servicers of residential and commercial mortgages, asset managers and funds. In each case, users should refer to the definitions of each individual scale for guidance on the dimensions of risk covered in each assessment.

Fitch regularly publishes concise commentary and special reports featuring in-depth coverage and perspective on the latest market events and industry trends affecting the global fixed-income markets, as well as sector-specific research for CorporatesFinancial InstitutionsInfrastructure and Project FinanceInsuranceInternational & US Public Finance, Sovereigns, and Structured Finance.
